Your Role

As an intern or recent graduate, you will become part of one of our dynamic teams within the BG A&L department, collaborating with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds. Your contributions will focus on enhancing our technologies and processes, providing you with valuable professional experience. You will engage in research and experimentation, working collectively to generate innovative ideas, and have the opportunity to present your findings to your team and other department members.

Available Assignments

Our internships typically span a duration of 5 to 6 months, commencing in January/February or September. Below are the assignments currently available:

Assignment 1 - Development of an Automated Measurement Tool (for HBO/University Electrical Engineering Graduates)

In our validation processes, we frequently require measurements that involve sweeping a single parameter (voltage/current) while monitoring several others. To mitigate the risk of errors associated with manual data entry, we seek to develop an automated tool capable of executing these measurements efficiently. This tool should be user-friendly, configurable, and compatible with various laboratory equipment, while also allowing for future enhancements in functionality and equipment management. A robust software architecture is crucial for meeting these objectives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Mastering advanced LabVIEW design methodologies
  • Creating a software design specification
  • Developing the measurement tool
  • Compiling a user manual

Assignment 2 - Creation of a Hardware Reuse Tool (for University Software Engineering Students)

Integrated Circuits (ICs) are compact electronic devices that incorporate multiple interconnected components on a single semiconductor chip. Each IC features bondpads that connect it to the package leads. Prior to packaging, testing must occur while the chips remain on the silicon wafer, typically using probecards, which can be costly. We aim to design a tool that consolidates information on our ICs, including bondpad locations, chip dimensions, bondpad counts, and sizes. This tool should also facilitate searches for chips that meet specific design criteria, enabling the reuse of probecards. The challenge lies in effectively retrieving and processing data from various databases and tools. Your tasks will include:

  • Investigating the Design database and data retrieval methods
  • Exploring the Enovia database for data access
  • Establishing the software tool architecture
  • Designing the user interface/GUI
  • Building the software
  • Utilizing Python for development
  • Implementing software architecture principles
  • Applying database knowledge
  • Employing Object-Oriented Programming techniques
  • Incorporating Software Design Patterns
