Position Overview
The successful candidates will be expected to integrate research with educational responsibilities, societal contributions, and management functions. Regular physical presence is essential, alongside active engagement in departmental research initiatives, teaching commitments, and collaborative management efforts across the Faculty, University, and various societal stakeholders. We seek individuals with specialized knowledge in organizational transformation within the framework of societal transitions and/or the dynamics of organizing in an increasingly interconnected global landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting high-caliber research that meets international standards, including impactful publications and contributions to societal advancements.
- Providing mentorship and guidance to early-career faculty and students.
- Leading the OCTS or ONS research cluster while contributing to the management of the ORG department and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
- Supervising doctoral candidates and participating in the Graduate School of Social Sciences.
- Securing external funding and submitting proposals for research and valorization projects.
- Delivering instruction in the ORG programs, including leading Executive Education initiatives.
- Enhancing the academic standing of the department through international research collaborations, keynote presentations, and editorial responsibilities for leading academic journals.
- Contributing positively to the departmental community.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
- A PhD in Social Sciences, with a strong focus on Organization Studies, particularly in relation to organizational change and societal transitions.
- Proven experience as a servant leader within complex academic environments, demonstrating strong social, organizational, and management capabilities in both teaching and research.
- A compelling and visionary research agenda with a notable reputation in the international Organization Studies community, evidenced by successful participation in global networks and projects.
- A robust publication record and a portfolio of research initiatives that align with organizational change in transitioning societies and/or organizing processes in a global context.
- Demonstrated leadership in research, including significant contributions to the establishment and management of research teams and mentoring of emerging scholars.
- A commitment to fostering societal impact and the ability to engage effectively with diverse societal stakeholders.
- A successful track record in obtaining national and international research grants and funding from industry and societal partners.
- Experience in recruiting and supervising PhD candidates, with an emphasis on collaborative supervision.
- A vision for and experience in developing innovative educational methodologies, with a strong record in designing and delivering courses at various academic levels, particularly in organization theory and change.
- A willingness to contribute to the department's culture and community, demonstrating good academic citizenship and initiatives that promote a supportive and inspiring work environment.
- Proficiency in teaching in both Dutch and English at the C1 level or a commitment to achieving this level within the first two years.

What We Offer
This role presents a unique opportunity within a socially responsible organization. At VU Amsterdam, your contributions to education, research, and community service will be significant. In return for your dedication, we provide:
- A competitive salary ranging from €6,000 to €9,000 gross per month, based on the UFO profile of Professor 2, with the exact amount determined by your qualifications and experience.
- A contract for 0.8-1 FTE, initially for 18 months, with the possibility of a permanent position thereafter.
We also offer a range of attractive benefits, including:
- A full-time 38-hour workweek with a holiday entitlement of hours per year, and additional leave for those working 40 hours.
- An 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
