We are seeking a highly skilled expert in environmental risk assessment to join our team. As an Environmental Risk Consultant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the industry to achieve sustainability goals set by the EU's chemicals strategy for a toxic-free environment.

Job Description

Role Summary

The Environmental Risk Consultant will be responsible for assessing substance safety according to European and national legislation. This involves evaluating hazards, exposure, and risks of substances based on empirical and modeling information. You will work closely with colleagues specializing in (eco)toxicology and risk assessment to document findings in documents such as REACH registration dossiers or waste recovery dossiers.

Your activities will include:

  • Guiding external laboratories in conducting tests and analyses, interpreting, and reviewing reports for clients.
  • Mastery and application of various techniques to predict the functionality and reactivity of substances (e.g., OECD toolbox or other predictive techniques, including read-across).
  • Determination of legal obligations of clients under EU REACH legislation based on your experiences, guidance, and interpretation. You will also assist clients in exploring alternatives for highly concerning substances (substitution).
  • Coaching and mentoring junior colleagues, ensuring the quality of deliverables for clients.
  • Maintenance and development of client relationships, organization, and response to client inquiries.

To provide effective solutions for clients, it is essential to immerse yourself in their world and be curious. Additionally, exploring how digitization can enhance our services and products is vital.

About the Role

This position is part of our Environment & Safety consulting group, consisting of approximately 100 professionals in the areas of safety, health, environment, and permitting. We operate globally, with a focus on energy transition, circular economy, climate change, and healthy living environments. Our clients range from medium-sized companies to multinationals and governments. As an Environmental Risk Consultant, you will be part of multidisciplinary project teams.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have experience working with processes determining the impact, behavior, and fate of substances in the environment. A background in (bio)chemistry, environmental sciences, chemical engineering, or molecular sciences at the BSc or MSc level is required. Additionally, knowledge of EU REACH legislation and at least two years' experience working with IUCLID, Chesar, or other dispersion and emission models are essential. An affinity for or knowledge of various (Q)SAR models is also beneficial.
