As a Machine Learning Engineering Manager, you will lead your team to create substantial business impact, both directly and indirectly, by empowering others. You will set an example, earning respect through your actions rather than your title. Your role involves developing your team, motivating them to reach their objectives, providing timely feedback, and managing key performance indicators. You will drive progress by fostering motivation and instilling a sense of urgency, while balancing long-term and short-term goals through effective decision-making and influence.
Our Machine Learning Platform is integral to delivering personalized experiences at Booking, and you will contribute to its development, supporting various business areas as they leverage machine learning to tackle complex challenges, from fraud detection to property recommendations for travelers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and nurture a high-performing team by coaching and developing individual contributors.
- Collaborate with Product Managers to prioritize work based on business needs, ensuring stakeholder alignment.
- Translate the machine learning vision into actionable plans and ensure timely execution.
- Convert business challenges into viable, reliable, and robust machine learning and AI solutions, considering production constraints.
- Monitor product health, performance, and business impact, taking action when requirements are unmet.
- Identify underlying issues and opportunities through structured thinking and logic.
- Apply diverse methods and insights to resolve challenges across various domains.
- Guide, coach, and mentor others, effectively communicating advanced technical concepts in simpler terms.
- Continuously enhance your expertise by staying updated with industry standards and exploring new technologies.
- Contribute to the machine learning community through training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
- Advocate for improvements, scalability, and enhancements in machine learning tools and infrastructure.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of relevant experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role with a minimum of 4 team members in a dynamic production environment.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration for machine learning product development.
- Advanced knowledge in areas such as Generative AI, MLOps, Recommender Systems, and Deep Learning.
- Demonstrated experience with large datasets, experimentation, scalability, and optimization.
- Proven ability to design and execute comprehensive technical roadmaps.
- Experience in driving initiatives that enhance productivity, performance, and quality while engaging stakeholders.
- Familiarity with data-driven product development methodologies, including analytics and A/B testing.
- Strong programming skills in at least two server-side languages, with Python or Java being advantageous.
- Experience with version control systems.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A proactive attitude with a 'can do' mindset.
- Ability to work within a commutable distance from the assigned office location.
