Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Nederland Netherlands Cancer Institute Voltijd

Position Overview

As a member of the BioTherapeutics Unit, you will play a vital role in our mission to advance cellular immunotherapy for cancer treatment. Collaborating with the research team led by John Haanen, you will engage in the generation of T cell products intended for clinical use.

Our focus is on pioneering cellular immunotherapy strategies, particularly T cell therapies. T cells are procured from patient tumors or blood and may undergo genetic modifications within our state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities. The resulting T cell products represent a new frontier in living medicines, with their safety and efficacy being rigorously evaluated through various clinical trials. The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) is at the forefront of developing these innovative therapeutic approaches.

In this role, you will actively support the expansion of our T cell program as part of the NKI/AVL Center for Cellular Therapies. Our goal is to broaden access to T cell immunotherapy for a diverse patient population facing different cancer types. You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, including analysts, pharmacists, physicians, researchers, and quality assurance professionals. Your primary responsibility will be the production of T cell products under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards in our BioTherapeutics Unit cleanrooms. Opportunities may also arise for involvement in product development and immune monitoring within various cell therapy studies.

Your work will encompass a variety of techniques, such as cell culture, genetic engineering, selection methodologies (e.g., CliniMACS), flow cytometry, and molecular analyses. Collaboration with colleagues will be essential, particularly in the context of GMP quality assurance.

Qualifications

  • A foundational education at the HLO level in fields such as immunology, cell biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, or biochemistry;
  • A keen interest in the production of T cell products for clinical applications under GMP conditions;
  • Relevant experience in cell culture and various analytical techniques, including flow cytometry;
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and a proactive, flexible approach.

Compensation and Benefits

As our organization grows and innovates, your professional development will be a priority. We welcome initiatives that enhance your growth and that of our department. Salary will be competitive, ranging from € 2.554,- to € 3.468,- gross per month, based on a 36-hour workweek, aligned with the FWG 45 job scale. Employment conditions adhere to the collective labor agreement for hospitals.

Additional benefits include 8.33% holiday pay and a fixed year-end bonus of 8.33%. A travel allowance of € 0.19 per kilometer is also provided.

Employees enjoy free parking, and we encourage sustainable commuting options, offering an attractive bicycle arrangement and discounts on public transport. As part of our commitment to employee welfare, we contribute 50% to your pension plan and provide group discounts for health insurance and disability coverage.
