Mechanical Engineer for Metrology of Subnanometer Glue Drift

The Sensors Mechanics group within the Mechanical Development cluster is responsible for designing optical sensor systems, including wafer height measurement systems and image sensors.
Part of the group's development portfolio are image sensors, which measure various parameters such as the position of the focal plane of the projection lens, light energy, optical aberrations, and the position of the stage with respect to a reference.
These sensors use a camera or sensor covered with a glass plate featuring optical markers, which are glued using a 2-component epoxy in the sensor housing.
The stability of the glue connection is crucial, as any deviations can negatively impact the quality of the integrated circuit produced by our customer.
A challenge in achieving this stability is the outgassing that occurs when the glue is exposed to the vacuum inside our scanners.
Your AssignmentThe main objective of this assignment is to set up and conduct experiments to investigate and improve the drift inherent to some performance-critical glue connections.
Available set-ups at ASML and elsewhere will be evaluated to determine their suitability and potential for exploiting them.
This includes assessing the accuracy of the instruments, selecting suitable samples, and developing a stable support system.
The results will be processed and presented in a meaningful way, and ideas for improving the stability of the glue connection will be welcomed.
If time allows, these ideas may be transformed into prototypes to demonstrate feasibility and performance.
Your ProfileTo be considered for this role, you should be a Master's student with a background in mechanical engineering, physics, or equivalent expertise.
You should possess a self-propelling and solution-oriented approach, as well as excellent communication and hands-on skills.
This is a graduation/apprentice internship, which will require you to work 5 days a week for 5-9 months, starting in September.
Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
