Mechanical Engineering Internship: Metrology of Subnanometer Glue Drift
5 dagen geleden
Background Information
The Sensors Mechanics group at ASML is responsible for designing optical sensor systems, including wafer height measurement systems and image sensors. The group's development portfolio includes various image sensors used to measure the position of the focal plane of the projection lens, light energy, optical aberrations, and the position of the stage with respect to a reference. These sensors use a camera or sensor covered with a glass plate featuring optical markers, which are glued to the sensor housing using a 2-component epoxy. The glue connection must be highly stable over time, as any deviation can reduce the quality of the integrated circuit produced by our customer. A challenging factor in achieving this stability is the outgassing that occurs when the glue is exposed to the vacuum inside our scanners. Given the limited in-scanner test time, an offline platform is needed to test potential improvements.
Your Assignment
Your task is to set up and conduct experiments to investigate and improve the drift inherent to some performance-critical glue connections. Available set-ups at ASML and elsewhere will need to be evaluated to determine their suitability and how to exploit them. You will need to assess the instrument's accuracy, select suitable samples, and design a stable support system. Additionally, you will need to understand the sub-nanometer drift you are studying to correctly interpret the results and determine the requirements for the set-up. Any ideas for improving the stability of the glue connection that arise during this process are welcome. If time allows, you will have the opportunity to transform these ideas into prototypes to demonstrate their feasibility and performance on your set-up.
Your Profile
To be considered for this role, you should be a Master's student with a background in mechanical engineering, physics, or equivalent expertise. You should also possess a self-propelling, solution-oriented, communicative approach with a hands-on mentality to conduct glue experiments, including analyses.
This is a graduation/apprentice internship for 5 days a week with a duration of 5-9 months, starting in September. Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
Join a dynamic team at ASML
At ASML, you will gain valuable experience in a highly innovative environment that sparks your imagination and creativity. In addition to a monthly internship allowance of maximum €600 (plus possible housing allowance and free public transport), you will receive practical guidance from experts in the field and the chance to work in a dynamic team environment.
ASML: be part of progress
ASML is a high-tech company headquartered in the Netherlands. We manufacture complex lithography machines that chipmakers use to produce integrated circuits, or computer chips. What we do is at the heart of all the electronic devices that keep us informed, entertained, and connected. Every day, you use electronics that simply wouldn't exist without our machines.
Behind ASML's innovations are engineers who think ahead. The people who work at our company include some of the most creative minds in physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, chemistry, mechatronics, optics, mechanical engineering, computer science, and fields that are not technically oriented. We believe we can always do better. We believe the winning idea can come from anyone. We love what we do – not because it's easy, but because it's hard.
Diversity and inclusion
ASML is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values and respects the importance of a diverse and inclusive workforce. It is the policy of the company to recruit, hire, train, and promote persons in all job titles without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We recognize that diversity and inclusion is a driving force in the success of our company.
