Project Overview

In this project, we aim to develop a resilience toolbox to support companies and public stakeholders in developing resilient multimodal corridors. This involves transforming existing corridors and designing a digital twin for resilient multimodal corridors.

Research Objectives
  1. Develop a resilience toolbox to support companies and public stakeholders in developing resilient corridors.
  2. Design and develop a digital twin for resilient multimodal corridors.
Research Focus

The PhD position will focus on the first objective, conducting fundamental and industrial research on resilience in multimodal logistics. This will involve developing new quantitative and qualitative methods and techniques, as well as organizational strategies, capabilities, and interventions to improve resilience.

Collaboration

The second objective will be carried out collaboratively with an EngD student, who will work on developing a digital twin platform. This platform will provide a rich testbed for experimental development and evaluation of the resilience toolbox.

Industry Cases and Policy Development

The project is based on the 2018 and 2022 droughts in the Twente canals and involves industry cases and policy development plans from an extensive research consortium.

Your Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher who is driven by curiosity and has:

  • A Master's degree or equivalent in industrial engineering, management science, operations research, operations management, or information systems and computer science-related engineering field.
  • Affinity and/or experience with Resilience, Multimodal Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Digital Twinning, and Data-driven Decision Making.
  • A good team spirit and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment.
  • The ability to do independent research and a willingness to develop writing and publication skills.
  • A strong passion for developing positive societal impact and outstanding skills to collaborate with private and public organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills and a good command of English.
Our Offer

We offer a full-time 4-year PhD position with a qualifier in the first year, excellent mentorship in a stimulating research environment with excellent facilities, and a personal development program within the Twente Graduate School. The position includes:

  • A gross monthly salary of € 2.770 in the first year, increasing each year up to € 3.539 in the fourth year.
  • Excellent benefits, including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme.
