Job Title: Assistant Accountant

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our team at Aflatoun International. As a key member of our Operations & Finance department, you will be responsible for providing financial administration support, salary administration, and system administration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Administration (65%):
    • Accurate and timely financial administration processing, including input of payments for approval, booking entries in Aflatoun's accounting system, and providing advice on cost codes, financial processes, payments, and salary administration queries.
    • Prepare invoices to be submitted to donors in coordination with the project management unit, add cost codes to finance system and PR form as required, and identify financial issues, risks, non-compliance, and escalate as required.
    • Prepare documents, reports, collect invoices, and other documentation for audit and other assistance for external controller as required, and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Salary Administration (10%):
    • Coordinate salary administration with the external salary administrator to ensure on-time, accurate payments, and payment of volunteers and interns.
    • Booking appropriate entries in Exact.
  • Exact Online system administration (25%):
    • Create, change, or remove GL codes, add or change personnel in the system when required, and generate reports on time spent.
Requirements:
  • An Accounting degree or accounting certificate or similar excellent technical accounting and bookkeeping knowledge.
  • 4-7 years' experience in bookkeeping and financial administration.
  • Highly numeric and analytical, with excellent attention to detail, high degree of integrity, process and compliance focused, and high degree of discretion and confidentiality with sensitive organization information.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing tasks and deadlines, computer skills, including sound knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, and knowledge of Exact online accounting software is a plus.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and a working level of Dutch, understanding and willingness to conduct work and demonstrate behaviors in line with Aflatoun International's values and policies.
Employment Details:

The position is a full-time position. We offer a dynamic and pleasant multicultural working environment, and the remuneration will be discussed based on the type of contract and experience.

Due to the nature of Aflatoun's work with children around the world, specific attention is drawn towards Aflatoun's Child Protection Policy and its Policy on the Protection of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA). These two policies are required to be signed by new employees and form part of the employment documents related to the employment contract. The applicant commits to zero tolerance towards sexual exploitation and abuse. An additional written test may be required.

Management may appoint at a lower step based on the candidate's skills and experiences against the position's requirements.

A valid work permit is required for this position.
