Research and Teaching Position

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. The selected candidate will be working on a project focused on the political economy of housing, financial policy, and climate adaptation in the Netherlands.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct empirical qualitative research on climate adaptation in the Netherlands, including in-depth interviews and policy analysis.
  • Complete a PhD dissertation based on four scientific articles, to be submitted to leading academic journals.
  • Contribute to the teaching program of the department, including teaching Bachelor's students.
  • Assist with administrative responsibilities related to the project, such as organizing workshops and other project events.
  • Participate in seminars of the program group and the department.

Requirements

  • A completed MA or Research MA in political science, human geography, sociology, public administration, anthropology, or a related social science field.
  • Interest in topics related to housing, climate, and finance.
  • Training in qualitative research methods, such as in-depth interviews, ethnographic fieldwork, and policy analysis.
  • Good research skills, as demonstrated by your MA thesis or other publications/assignments.
  • Excellent command of English and good Dutch proficiency.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

What We Offer

The position involves temporary employment of 38 hours per week for a maximum term of four years. The initial employment is for one year, followed by a maximum of three years, which should result in the conferral of a doctorate.
