Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled researcher to join our team at the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam. As a PhD candidate, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, and industry partners working on the early diagnosis of visual-field deficits.

Project Overview

In this project, you will develop approaches for the early diagnosis of visual-field deficits using experimental and theoretical techniques. You will design, implement, and conduct sensorimotor experiments to collect data from healthy individuals and individuals with visual-field deficits or at risk of developing deficits. You will also develop and apply Bayesian statistical models for visual-field deficit detection.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct sensorimotor experiments to collect data from healthy individuals and individuals with visual-field deficits or at risk of developing deficits.
  • Develop and apply Bayesian statistical models for visual-field deficit detection.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and industry partners to validate findings and translate research outcomes into clinical practice.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at relevant conferences.

Work Environment

The research will be conducted within the Vestibular and Oculomotor Research Group, which is part of the department of Neuroscience at the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam. The department has an international character with a good balance between worldwide recognized research and an excellent social working environment. Your project will benefit from active collaborations with our local partners from the department of Ophthalmology as well as our Indian partners at the Medical Research Foundation and the Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital, Chennai.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's degree in Neuroscience or a related field, e.g., Biomedical Engineering.
  • Strong background in statistical modeling, preferably with experience in Bayesian methods.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Matlab, Python, R) and data analysis.
  • Experience with or interest in (video) eye-tracking techniques.
  • At least CEFR B-level proficiency in Dutch for the communication with patients.

Terms of Employment

  • You will receive a temporary position for 4 years. The gross monthly salary is € 3.017,- in the 1st year and increases to € 3.824,- in the 4th year (scale OIO).
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and a individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 70% of the monthly contribution.
  • Special benefits, such as a incompany physiotherapist and bicycle repairer. And there is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.
