Job Description

We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor in Social and Political Philosophy to join our team at Universiteit Utrecht. As a key member of our faculty, you will be responsible for teaching and conducting research in the field of social and political philosophy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate students in social and political philosophy, including courses on critical social theory, democratic theory, and theories of justice.
  • Conduct research in social and political philosophy, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches and collaborations.
  • Develop and maintain a strong research profile, including publications in leading journals and external research funding.
  • Contribute to the development of interdisciplinary teaching and research, particularly in the research strategic themes and focus areas listed above.
  • Develop a societal impact agenda related to your academic work and teaching.
Requirements
  • PhD in Philosophy (or a closely related field) by the time of appointment.
  • Teaching and research expertise in social and political philosophy, including an affinity for teaching and supervising in the PPE programme.
  • Research specialisation within the field of social and political philosophy, as evidenced by a realistic medium-term research plan.
  • Record of publications demonstrating the ability to conduct research internationally recognised as contributing to the field.
  • Experience with teaching in undergraduate and/or graduate programmes.
  • Interdisciplinary attitude, with the willingness and ability to contribute to the development of interdisciplinary teaching and research.
  • Ability to teach in Dutch and English, with support provided for international candidates to acquire Dutch language skills.
  • Dutch (UTQ) or willingness to obtain it.
What We Offer
  • A position for 12 months with the prospect of a permanent employment contract.
  • A working week of 38 hours, with 40% reserved for research and 60% for teaching.
  • A gross monthly salary between €4,332 and €6,737 in the case of full-time employment.
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • A pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible terms of employment.
