About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at Universiteit Utrecht. As a key member of our research project, you will contribute to developing innovative approaches for inclusive energy transitions in neighbourhoods.

Job Description

The successful candidate will work on empirical research related to two selected neighbourhoods in Utrecht, focusing on visions and visioning processes regarding their futures. Key responsibilities include:

  • Analysing how neighbourhood futures are envisioned;
  • Developing and testing alternative approaches for envisioning neighbourhood futures;
  • Articulating methods for institutionalising novel visioning approaches locally and addressing their replicability internationally;
  • (Co-)Organising consortium meetings and leading stakeholder events.

You will be working closely with Dr Martijn van den Hurk and the international consortium, comprising universities from Belgium, Estonia, the Netherlands, and Portugal.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field such as urban or spatial planning, human geography, sustainable development, or transition studies;
  • Excellent academic skills, including qualitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation, stakeholder engagement, and research ethics;
  • In-depth knowledge of or strong affinity with neighbourhoods, energy transitions, and futures studies;
  • Strong writing skills;
  • An excellent command of English - proficiency in Dutch is considered an advantage;
  • An ability to work independently and collaboratively;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Benefits

  • A 24-month position;
  • A working week of 28-32 hours and a gross monthly salary between €33,450 and €44,920 (salary scale 10.0-10.7 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities);
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
