PhD Researcher in Laser Material Processing

At the University of Twente, we are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to contribute to our research team focused on laser material processing. The successful candidate will work on developing novel methods for laser-assisted soldering of circuit elements, aiming to improve the assembly of heterogeneous systems of electronic and photonic chips.

Background

Laser-based manufacturing techniques offer promising solutions for the fabrication of complex electronic and photonic circuits. The project targets the development of next-generation high-tech equipment to support growth and development of important Dutch high-tech sectors. This collaboration between knowledge institutes and industry aims to address societal challenges through innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate novel methods for laser-assisted soldering of circuit elements
  • Develop a setup to enable laser-assisted transfer and analyse printed materials
  • Contribute to the use of these materials in real integrated circuit systems to decrease the size of features

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, Electrical or Materials Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Good knowledge of fundamental aspects of laser-material processing
  • Experience in using technologies/techniques for surface characterisation, e.g. SEM, EDX, AFM, etc.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment and undertake experimental research
