We are currently seeking an intern to join our Research & Development division for a six-month period.
Internship Overview:
You will become an integral part of our Phytopathology team, consisting of seven professionals, focusing on the creation of a detached leaf assay protocol for Powdery Mildew affecting one of our plant varieties. The existing bio-assays are resource-intensive and occupy significant greenhouse space, leading to high operational costs. Thus, the development of a detached leaf assay is essential for a more economical and efficient approach, providing flexibility and reducing labor requirements. This project will encompass the investigation of chemical senescence retardants on detached leaves, various inoculation techniques, isolate comparisons, and correlation studies between detached leaf assays and whole plant assays. Collaboration with our Artificial Intelligence team for image acquisition and analysis will be crucial. You will work alongside a dynamic group of researchers, gaining valuable experience in plant pathology and experimental design within both laboratory and greenhouse settings.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct a literature review on detached leaf assay methodologies for Powdery Mildew;
- Develop a comprehensive research proposal based on thorough literature analysis;
- Innovate methods for inoculating Powdery Mildew in detached leaf assays;
- Design and implement experiments for pathogenicity assessments in both detached leaf assays and mature plants;
- Perform image analysis;
- Analyze and visualize data proficiently;
- Compile a detailed report summarizing experimental findings and results.
Candidate Profile:
- Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Plant Sciences or a related discipline;
- Essential experience with laboratory techniques; familiarity with pathogens and interest in image analysis is advantageous;
- Possess an analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach;
- Ability to work independently and maintain organization;
- Excellent communication skills with proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
