A Short-Term Appointment is used to recruit staff to meet short-term needs. The duration of this assignment is provided above. The maximum duration of a short-term appointment including extensions shall not exceed 12 months.

A Short-Term Appointment does not carry any expectancy, legal or otherwise, of renewal and shall not be converted to any other type of appointment.

Due to the short-term nature of the assignment, the ICC reserves the right to make an appointment at one grade lower than that stated in the vacancy with a modified job description.

The terms and conditions of service for staff members appointed under a short-term appointment are governed by ICC/AI/2016/001.

**Organizational Context**

The Secretariat (SASP) provides the Assembly and its Bureau and subsidiary bodies with substantive, administrative and technical assistance in the discharge of their functions under the Statute. The substantive servicing functions include, inter alia, providing legal and substantive secretariat services, such as the provision of documentation, reports and analytical summaries, and supplying advice within the Secretariat on legal and substantive issues relating to the work of the Assembly. The post is based in The Hague, but will cover and assist the work of the President and the New York Working Group in New York.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

Under the supervision of the President of the Assembly and, as appropriate, the Director of the Secretariat of the Assembly, the incumbent performs following duties:

- Support the President, in coordination with the Secretariat of the Assembly based in the Hague (SASP), as appropriate, in his/her activities with the Assembly, its Bureau, working groups and subsidiary bodies.
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of the external relations and communications strategy of the President, in particular by providing advice on issues and developments affecting the President’s external relations-related activities, conducting research and preparing materials, and providing support for his/her activities and initiatives to engage with the global community (States Parties and non-States Parties, the United Nations, international and non-governmental organizations, academia and the general public) in order to enhance support and cooperation with the Court and promote universal participation in the Rome Statute. This includes assisting in the preparation of draft statements, draft presentations, draft talking points, replies to media queries, interview requests, written contributions to publications, participation in conferences/seminars/side events for the President of the Assembly as well as managing the President’s official social media accounts in a timely manner.
- Provide, as required, policy, legal and strategic support and advice to the President on complex issues pertaining to the President’s mandate and functions.
- Assist, as appropriate, in the review of documents submitted for the President’s consideration, including internal communications with the Court, letters, note verbales, memoranda, policy documents, legal documents, reports to the Assembly and its subsidiary bodies, resolutions, reports to the United Nations and other documents.
- In coordination with the Secretariat of the Assembly based in The Hague (SASP), provide substantive servicing of the Assembly, its New York Working Group and Bureau, and other serviced bodies including through the timely and accurate preparation of summaries of the discussions, revision of documentation, with a sound legal basis of the issues discussed, in coordination with SASP but with mínimal supervision. The incumbent will be required to be available to work during nights due to time difference with New York, and to travel when required ;
- Reporting on relevant aspects of meetings related to the Assembly and the Court at the United Nations, including the Friends of the ICC, the Security Council, the UN General Assembly and others, taking into account the reporting obligations of the Head of the ICC Liaison Office so as to avoid duplication;
- Provide substantive support to the President by ensuring the President’s preparation for meetings and official travel, drafting, speeches, speaking notes, articles and other relevant documents, as well as accompany the President as required, providing advice, establishing key contacts and ensuring follow up.
