At Huawei Amsterdam Research Center, we are shaping the next generation of AI systems that can understand not only information, but also human emotion.

We are seeking a motivated computer scientist intern to join our research team. This role is ideal for students who want hands-on experience in exploring how AI systems can recognize and respond to human emotions.

You will support ongoing research into emotion-aware AI and multimodal interaction, contributing to algorithms, prototypes, and experiments that make human–AI interaction more natural, empathic, and engaging.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in research on multimodal emotion recognition.
  • Support the development and evaluation of emotion-aware algorithms and models, including those based on foundation models and multimodal large language models (MLLMs).
  • Contribute to experiments in speech emotion recognition and expressive text-to-speech synthesis.
  • Help prepare datasets, prototypes, and analysis reports to support ongoing projects.
  • Stay up to date with recent work in affective computing, speech processing, and multimodal AI.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree or advanced Bachelor's in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cognitive Science, or a related field - this is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated interest or coursework in affective computing, speech/audio processing, multimodal learning, or human-AI interaction.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Basic knowledge of at least one relevant area such as speech processing, computer vision, or natural language processing.
  • English proficiency required; Chinese language skills are a plus.
  • Preferably available for a 6-month internship.
