Research Engineer – Information Retrieval & Generative Models - Amsterdam, Netherlands

About the Role:

As a Research Engineer, you will focus on information retrieval and generative AI models, designing and optimizing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems that seamlessly integrate text, images, and other modalities. Your work will improve LLM reasoning, reduce hallucinations, and enhance overall user experience.

You'll collaborate with a team of talented researchers, data scientists, and engineers to push the boundaries of AI capability, turning innovative ideas into scalable, real-world solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and optimize information retrieval and RAG systems.
  • Enhance large language model reasoning and reduce output hallucinations.
  • Research and apply state-of-the-art NLP, ML, and IR methods.
  • Develop algorithms to improve performance and scalability.
  • Collaborate across teams to integrate AI solutions into real-world products.
  • Collect, process, and analyze large datasets to support ongoing research.
  • Benchmark and evaluate model performance across modalities.

Qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (with focus on NLP, ML, or IR).
  • Proficient in Python and experienced with PyTorch or similar ML frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of deep learning architectures (Transformers, BERT, GPT, etc.).
  • Demonstrated research excellence through publications or applied projects.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automatic speech recognition (ASR).
  • Knowledge of retrieval-based models (vector space, BM25, neural retrieval methods).
  • Familiarity with knowledge bases, information extraction, or QA systems.
  • Background in software development and engineering best practices.
