About the role

Do you want to be at the forefront of sustainable mining and environmental transformation?

For our client, a global leader in material solutions, we are looking for a Sustainability Specialist to join their Sustainability Netherlands department to manage the full mining lifecycle in the Netherlands. In this role, you will ensure compliance with Dutch and EU mining legislation, coordinate sustainability forecasting, and drive the transformation of post-mining locations. You will work closely with site managers, local teams, and the global sustainability department to align sustainability strategies across operations.

What you will be doing

• Oversee and manage all phases of the mining lifecycle in the Netherlands, ensuring long-term environmental and operational sustainability.
• Monitor compliance with Dutch and EU mining laws, environmental regulations, and sustainability standards.
• Provide strategic advice on permitting processes, land rehabilitation, and post-mining transformation.
• Build and maintain relationships with governmental bodies, municipalities, local communities, and environmental organizations.
• Collaborate with European and global sustainability teams to implement environmental policies and sustainability projects.
• Integrate renewable energy solutions into post-mining site planning to enhance sustainable land use.
• Lead environmental impact assessments (EIA) and sustainability reporting efforts.

Who you are

• A Masters degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in mining sustainability, environmental compliance, or ecological coordination.
  • Experience with ISO14001 is a plus.
• Ability and experience with environmental impact assessments (EIA), land rehabilitation strategies, and post-mining redevelopment.
• Strong expertise in Dutch mining regulations and European sustainability frameworks
• Familiarity with the integration of renewable energy solutions into former mining locations.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to engage with external partners and regulatory bodies, acting as a credible ambassador for sustainability initiatives.
• Proven ability to execute and oversee sustainability projects effectively.
• Comfortable working autonomously while maintaining strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Fluent in Dutch; English is an advantage.
