Ship Operator

This position is responsible for ensuring the commercially efficient operation of the ships, encompassing tasks such as voyage planning, cargo stowage, port rotation, and bunker management. As a Ship Operator, you will be instrumental in planning stowage in close collaboration with the Master/Chief Officer, assisting the Chartering Department with queries to fix cargoes timely, maintaining customer contacts for ETA's and PTA's, and transmitting operational or logistical instructions to ships while ensuring compliance with all safety, regulatory, and procedural requirements.

Stolt Tankers, a division of Stolt-Nielsen Limited (SNL), is the specialist in transporting bulk liquids: chemicals, clean petroleum products, vegetable oils, biofuels, and oleochemicals. 
 

What you will be doing
As a Ship Operator, you will handle the day-to-day planning and manage the ship's commercial trading utilization through efficient cargo stowage, quality control practices, and voyage planning. You will collaborate closely with the Master/Chief Officer for stowage planning and timely assist the Chartering Department by providing necessary information to fix cargoes. It involves regular communication with customers to update them on estimated and planned times of arrival, ensuring all operational or logistical instructions adhere to safety, regulatory, and procedural guidelines. Working primarily from our Rotterdam office, you will use your analytical skills to manage all ship and voyage operations, upholding the company's standards of compliance with international, local, and other applicable regulations. Your role will also encompass supporting the handling of voyage-related incidents.
 

Key responsibilities
- Plan and manage the commercially efficient operation of ships.
- Collaborate closely with the Master/Chief Officer for cargo stowage.
- Assist the Chartering Department with queries for fixing cargoes.
- Maintain customer contacts for ETA's and PTA's and other operational information.
- Send operational/logistical instructions to ships, adhering to all safety, regulatory, and procedural requirements.
- Ensure compliance of the ship and voyage with operational and commercial fixtures.
- Support handling of voyage-related incidents.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of working experience.
- Preferably relevant work experience in the (chemical) shipping industry.
- Strong analytical skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
