AAP Animal Advocacy and Protection is a European animal welfare organization dedicated to the welfare of exotic animals. We care for rescued animals in our facilities in the Netherlands and Spain, and advocate for stronger legislation and enforcement across the European Union. As part of our renewed strategic plan for 2030, we are expanding our impact externally and strengthening our internal organization.

To support this transformation, we are looking for an experienced Change Manager in the Netherlands to guide our development toward a more agile, learning-oriented culture across all departments and countries. You'll work closely with the Executive Director and Management Team to lead this change from strategy to implementation.

What will you do?


• Lead the design and implementation of a sustainable change process that fosters learning, agility, and accountability across all departments and countries (NL, ES, DE, EU).


• Facilitate the co-creation of a SMART-defined desired situation for culture, processes, structure, and behavior, in close collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of managers and/or change ambassadors.


• Ensure the change project is fully embedded in AAP's integrated strategic plan, proactively identifying bottlenecks and providing both solicited and unsolicited advice to leadership.


• Coordinate and hands-on facilitate the change process, ensuring alignment with AAP's core values: Accessible, Dedicated, and Vigorous.


• Embed change into daily operations by developing supportive structures, policies, and habits that enable long-term sustainability.


• Empower teams and management to lead by example and drive change from a people-centered, collaborative culture.


• Monitor progress, conduct intermediate evaluations, and adjust the change plan where needed to ensure impact and momentum.


• Report directly to the Executive Director and, through him, to the Management Team and Employee Representation.


• Collaborate closely with HR, IT and managers to ensure broad engagement and support.

• Depending on relevant work experience, a gross monthly salary with a maximum of € based on 40 hours/week)


• 8% holiday allowance.


• A flexible personal budget of 2,75%.


• 24 vacation days per year on a full time basis.

Who are we looking for?


• Someone with an affinity with the objectives of AAP.


• Extensive experience in leading organizational change from a people-centered perspective, ideally in the NGO sector.


• You work and think at EQF-6 level or higher, equivalent to HBO+ or bachelor degree level.


• A strong track record in designing and embedding supportive processes, structures, and policies.


• Proven ability to work across cultural boundaries and foster collaboration in diverse teams.


• Strategic thinking combined with hands-on facilitation and coordination skills.


• Experience in empowering teams and building agile, learning-oriented cultures.


• Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills in both English and Dutch.


• A proactive and independent mindset, with the ability to give solicited and unsolicited advice to management.


• Fluency in Dutch and English; Spanish is an asset.

About AAP

AAP Animal Advocacy and Protection is a European animal welfare organization dedicated to the welfare of exotic animals. It is our mission to end their suffering by rescuing animals in need and advocate for better laws and regulations.

AAP operates two rescue and rehabilitation facilities, one in Almere (the Netherlands) and one in Villena (Spain). We rescue animals from illegal trade, circuses or private owners and help them recover both mentally and physically. When they are rehabilitated and ready to move on, we find a good place for them with one of our outplacement partners, such as a sanctuary or suitable zoo.

In Almere we have about 100 employees and more than 200 volunteers. We work in a spacious and modern location, in the middle of the green heart of Almere. Our office and facility centre are located on the same grounds as our rescued animals. Nowhere else can you see the result of your work so directly
