Amsterdam, Nederland Sanquin Voltijd
Are you passionate about stem cell research? Sanquin Research offers an exciting internship opportunity where you'll work with iPSCs, focusing on their maintenance and differentiation into blood cells. This project aims to develop clinically relevant cellular products. Curious? Read on About Sanquin

Sanquin’s mission is: “Together with the donor, we ensure a better life for patients.” We are a knowledge-driven, not-for-profit organization providing life-saving products and services while conducting cutting-edge research in blood transfusion medicine and immunology. Our research focuses on five medical needs: Anemia, Bleeding and Hemostasis, Cancer, Immune Deficiency and Aging, and Vascular and Inflammatory Diseases. We offer a dynamic, internationally oriented scientific environment with excellent facilities, weekly scientific meetings, journal clubs, and work discussions.

About the iPSC Facility

We seek a highly motivated student to join our iPSC (induced pluripotent stem cell) facility, a subgroup within the Department of Hematopoiesis. Here, we generate and differentiate various blood cell types using iPSCs to study hematopoiesis in health and disease. Our goal is to produce hematopoietic cells for transfusion or transplantation. The facility collaborates closely with internal and external research groups, creating a multidisciplinary environment.

Your Role

You will contribute to a project aiming to generate T-cells (CAR-T) for clinical applications. This involves optimizing 3D iPSC maintenance and establishing T-cell differentiation protocols, including dynamic culturing and bioreactor use. You will work independently and as part of a team, sharing the workload with researchers and technicians. This internship will provide extensive experience in iPSC culturing, including 2D and 3D maintenance and multi-lineage differentiation. The role may also involve molecular biology techniques (RNA, DNA work), as well as viral- and fluorescence-based methods. We are looking for a student available for 6-9 months, starting between September and November 2024.

Your Profile
At least 3 months of mammalian cell culture experience; Experience with iPSC handling is an advantage; Independent, responsible, and team-oriented; Strong communication and writing skills in English.
More Information

For more details about the internship, please contact Eszter Varga, PhD (leading scientist of iPSC facility) at e.varga@sanquin.nl. If this internship excites you and aligns with your skills, please send us your motivation letter (explaining your interest in this project and how your skillset fits) along with your CV, both in English.

Acquisition is not appreciated. Sanquin does not accept unrequested help from agencies for this vacancy. CV's (in whatever shape or form) that are send by agencies to any employee of Sanquin without a written assignment, will be considered property of Sanquin and Sanquin will therefore not owe compensation in any way..
