Job description

Within the department of Environmental Geography, the assistant project coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily coordination of a European Consortium doing research on urban agriculture development in the EU. The Horizon Europe project FOODCITYBOOST is led by the department of Environmental Geography at IVM (VU Amsterdam). FOODCITYBOOST’s objectives are to assess the economic, social and environmental impacts of different forms of urban agriculture. The project brings together 20 partners from all over Europe and builds on 6 living labs in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Latvia and Bulgaria. An integrated assessment of urban agriculture impacts to guide the design of future urban agriculture systems is the core of the project.

Duties

The assistant project coordinator will be responsible for monitoring the execution and completion of research activities within the project, ensuring that the scientific goals are reached, research is sufficiently integrated, and project objectives and reporting comply with requirements set by Horizon Europe. The assistant project coordinator will prepare and submit regular progress reports and scientific deliverables.

The assistant project coordinator will act as a central point of contact for all project-related communications, both internal and external, and facilitate effective communication among team members, partners, and the funding agency. The assistant project coordinator will also be responsible for the preparation and reporting of meetings and organize meetings and workshops.

The assistant project coordinator will play an active role in scientific activities. This can include synthesizing information from various stakeholders and scientific partners, analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data on urban agriculture, as well as contributing to scientific publications or achieving impact through policy or stakeholder interaction.

The above position in FOODCITYBOOST is for 0.7 fte. If the successful candidate wants a full time employment it is possible to engage for 1.5 days a week in research activities for the project WILDCARD, that investigates the options and constraints of rewilding forests and agricultural lands in the EU. Such extended position is only possible if the candidate has sufficient experience with independently conducting quantitative research using spatial data and models.

Requirements

you have recently obtained your Msc diploma in geography, environmental (social) science, agricultural sciences or a related discipline you can plan and organize excellently, you work results-oriented, structured, with integrity and care you have experience with quantitative analysis and/or spatial analysis you have very strong communication skills you have an interest for food and agriculture sustainability excellent command of English (at C1 level), both written and oral, is a must

What are we offering?

A position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,226 (scale 10) and a maximum €5,090 (scale 10), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.7 FTE. The employment contract is initially entered into for a period of 1 year with the intention of extending for an indefinite period if performance is good. The intended start date is January 2024.
