Delft, Nederland TNO Voltijd

What will be your role?

As a senior scientist you are responsible for developing new knowledge on the complex interactions between flow, contaminant/particle transport and thermal effects in e.g. EUV Lithography Scanners. Your results, obtained both by theory and experiments, will deepen the understanding of these processes, and form a first key step towards novel solutions. A key challenge here is to translate customer questions into simulation models, test-setups and experimental test programs. You will join and technically lead the teams that simulate, prepare, execute and analyze tests on e.g. our Dynamic Gas Lock Test-Rig, Particle Test-Rig and . You will report results to the customers and will discuss the impact and follow-up of the work. Depending on your interests and experience, you may also contribute to other research domains involving metrology development, plasma or vacuum technology (such as decarbonization of the gas grid), or programmes at European level.

The demand for computer chips is large and diverse. Health-care equipment, autonomous cars and smartphones are just some of the applications. TNO’s Semicon Equipment & Metrology department is working with the world’s leading manufacturers of equipment for EUV-lithography. We are expanding our team that studies flow, contaminant/particle transport and thermal effects in e.g. EUV Lithography Scanners. Are you our new colleague that helps us to develop and improve manufacturing equipment, so that it lasts longer and performs better?

TNO’s Semicon Equipment & Metrology expertise group at the Van Leeuwenhoek Laboratory in Delft is your home base. Recently this department has been emerged of the TNO Nano Instrumentation department [Learn more about Nano Instrumentation]. Our laboratory houses state-of-the-art research facilities. The expertise group consists of 40+ colleagues from all over the world and includes highly motivated scientists, engineers, system engineers, and project managers. We all share a drive to truly understand customer problems and to apply our knowledge for innovation and practical solutions. We offer a highly supportive and caring environment, we stimulate knowledge-sharing and welcome your ideas. At the Van Leeuwenhoek Laboratory you will find a friendly, open, and highly professional atmosphere.

What we expect from you

You thrive on working at applied research. Whether this is a more fundamental approach where you want to reveal the main process drivers, or a pragmatic experimental approach to develop novel solutions, you are eager to dive into it. You like to keep learning and to work in project teams to reach scientific and technical goals.

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

PhD or master’s degree in the relevant field (mechanical engineering, physics, aerospace engineering). At least 5-10 years of background in flow/thermal modelling (CFD / DSMC) and experience in applied physics in a company or research organisation. Hands-on experimental skills. Customer service skills. Data-analysis skills (e.g. Python, Matlab, MathCad). Precise, flexible, and resilient. Interest in semiconductor industry. Natural (team) leader. Good verbal and written communication skills (English).

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € ,00 and € ,00 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € ). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

Perhaps you would like to grow your career in the direction of commerce or consultancy? Or would you like to become a project manager? Immerse yourself in sustainable innovations? Or carve out a career as a technical expert?

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
