The Power Electronics and Electromagnetic Compatibility Group within the department Electrical Engineering has a vacancy for a Ph.D. researcher on Closed-loop testing for faster and better EM evaluation of complex high-tech systems within the EU Horizon 2020 Marie Skiodowska-Curie Project NEPIT - Network for Evaluation of Propagation and Interference Training. This researched is linked to Doctoral Candidate 2 – DC02.
To expose objects to electromagnetic fields we step to a new position, increase power level until a defined value is read by a meter but this very, very slow and the main problem is the slow meter response time therefore the key question is how electronic products react on electromagnetic interference and we would like that you help us to solve that problem
The objectives are to develop a world-wide accepted new standard for testing large systems in RC, by comparing the newest fast EM sensor systems, comparing performance with antennas, evaluate different algorithms for EM field strength data, investigating the minimal needed sensors (up to nine), and controlling the equipment using in-line measured data (closed-loop).
The expected results are to create new standard for automotive testing using RC, including VIRC. Update of IEC 61000-4-21 for large system testing. DC02 trained in large complex system EMI evaluation
Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and curiosity-driven researcher;
You have an master in Electrical engineering, physics, mathematics You have, or are about to get, a master’s degree in electromagnetic compatibility, telecommunications, electromagnetics or a related field; You have a background in physical electronics, analytical mathematics and simulation; You are an excellent teammate in an enthusiastic and hardworking group of scientists and engineers working on a joint assignment; You are creative, like to push boundaries, and are highly motivated to address major science challenges in EMC; You are proficient in English and able to collaborate intensively with industrial and academic parties in regular meetings and work visits.
Our offer
As a PhD researcher at the University of Twente, you will be appointed on a fulltime position for four years, with a qualifier in the first year, within a very stimulating scientific environment;
