Background information

D&E Design and Engineering, is responsible for the development of the newest platforms releases ASML produces for our high end customers. We ensure together as a department that the next Generation chips can be produced at a cost effective way.

The D&E EUV Transmissive Image Sensor (TIS) is a sensor group that is responsible for a sub-function of the whole machine. The main responsibility is to accurate alignment the Reticle (object) and the Wafer (image) at sub nanometer accuracy. We use an sensor diode in combination with a pattern design, that allows us to find the so called Aerial Image location. The aerial image's location tells the machine where light shall hit the wafer and enables us to print the object on the desired location at high accuracies.

TIS is also responsible for the detection of the pellicle. The pellicle is a protection membrane in front of the reticle, that prevents contamination from disturbing the extremely expensive reticles.

Your Assignment

The assignment focusses on the Pellicle Detection Rupture System (PDRS) functionality, and not on the alignment functionality of TIS.

The goal of this assignment would be:

Create an emulation model that allows to mimic the PDRS measurement methodologies. Model validation with real machine data, coming from the newest machines of ASML. When validated successfully, the assignment may be continued by a study to map the operation ranges in which PDRS can be supported with TIS. Proper documentation on your preliminary investigation is expected.

Your profile

To be a great fit for this internship assignment, ideally you are:

Bachelor's or Master's student in Physics, Mathematics, or relevant fields. Have affinity in coding, preferably complimented with knowledge in MATLAB, Python programming. Familiar with Object Oriented Programming, able to run simulations, analysis, and data visualization. Proficient knowledge in statistics, optics, data processing. Knowledge in material science, and or sensor architecture is a plus. Proactive, good communication skills and curious mindset complimented with can-do attitude.

Other requirements you need to meet:

This assignment could be combined as graduation project or an apprentice internship, for minimum 6 months starting in September 2024. Working full time for 40 hours per week (5 days). You are enrolled at a higher education institution for the entire duration of the internship. You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you ‘re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, please include in your CV/motivation letter willingness to relocate.
