With a strong commitment to excellence and sustainability, we strive to enhance efficiency, safety, and profitability across our diverse portfolio of activities worldwide.

We are currently looking for a Director HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment). The Director of HSSE is responsible for leading and overseeing the implementation of safety strategies across Hanseatic Global Terminals, which includes both terminals under direct management and those managed by subsidiaries. This role ensures that the highest safety and security standards, regulatory compliance, and environmental sustainability are applied, with tailored engagement approaches based on the operational model of each terminal. The Director fosters a proactive culture of safety by working closely with both directly managed operations and subsidiary partners to drive continuous improvement and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a Safety ambassador in all respects, engaging and motivating all employees of Hanseatic Global Terminals and its subsidiaries to think and act ‘Safety First’;

  • Lead and manage HSSE initiatives across Hanseatic Global Terminals, ensuring a differentiated approach to safety and risk mitigation for directly managed terminals and terminals operated by subsidiaries;

  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies that are tailored to both operational models. For directly managed terminals, ensure hands-on involvement in day-to-day safety practices. For subsidiary-managed terminals, provide guidance and oversight to ensure their safety strategies align with corporate standards;

  • Drive continuous improvement in safety performance by working closely with directly managed terminals to implement proactive measures and collaborating with subsidiaries to share best practices and ensure alignment with company-wide safety goals;

  • Engage with operational teams differently based on the management model:

    • Directly managed terminals: Actively collaborate with operational staff to integrate safety programs, lead on-the-ground safety initiatives, and ensure policies are effectively applied;

    • Subsidiary-managed terminals: Provide strategic oversight, conduct periodic reviews, and support the subsidiaries in adapting and implementing safety measures in line with corporate expectations;

  • Conduct audits and inspections at both directly managed and subsidiary terminals to ensure compliance with local, national, and international HSE regulations, with an emphasis on actionable feedback and continuous improvement;

  • Collaborate with operations teams to embed environmental sustainability practices that enhance both safety and operational efficiency, tailored to the management structure of each terminal;

  • Manage and mentor the HSE team, ensuring they are equipped to engage with both directly managed and subsidiary-operated terminals, fostering a cohesive safety culture across the entire network;

  • Lead tailored safety training programs designed to meet the unique needs of employees at directly managed terminals and provide strategic safety guidance and oversight for subsidiaries.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in Health, Safety, and Environmental management, with demonstrated capability to work in both directly managed and subsidiary-led operations, ideally in container port environments;

  • Deep knowledge of HSE regulations and practical safety practices applicable to diverse operational models in the container terminal industry;

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and engage with senior management across both directly managed and subsidiary operations to embed a safety-first culture;

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to implement strategic and tactical safety solutions tailored to different terminal management structures;

  • Experience in developing and applying safety systems in compliance with international standards, and adapting those systems to subsidiary contexts;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of providing hands-on guidance for directly managed terminals and offering strategic support to subsidiaries in delivering effective safety outcomes.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package;
  • Opportunity to work in a growing, fast growing and dynamic organization;
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment.
