Director of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment

Hapag-Lloyd AG is seeking a highly experienced professional to lead our health, safety, security, and environmental initiatives across our container terminal operations. As Director of HSSE, you will be responsible for driving a proactive culture of safety, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Leadership: Act as a champion for safety within the organization, engaging employees at all levels to adopt a 'safety-first' mindset.
  • HSSE Initiatives: Develop and implement tailored safety strategies for our directly managed terminals and subsidiaries, ensuring alignment with corporate standards.
  • Safety Policy Development: Create and monitor safety policies that reflect operational models, with hands-on involvement in directly managed terminals and strategic oversight for subsidiaries.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive safety performance enhancements by collaborating with directly managed terminals to integrate proactive measures and sharing best practices with subsidiaries.
  • Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with HSE regulations, providing actionable feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Collaborate with operations teams to embed environmentally sustainable practices that enhance both safety and operational efficiency.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor the HSE team to foster a cohesive safety culture across the network.

Candidate Profile:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Health, Safety, and Environmental management, with expertise in container port environments.
  • Deep knowledge of HSE regulations and practical safety practices applicable to diverse operational models.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and engage senior management to drive a safety-first culture.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to implement strategic and tactical safety solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide guidance and support to direct reports and subsidiary partners.

What We Offer:

  • A competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience.
