Job Vacancy:
Journalist - AFP
Location:  The Hague, Netherlands
The bureau in the Hague has a unique and exciting double function: covering the Netherlands as well as the host of international organisations based in the city.

The Netherlands has a wealth of great stories ranging from the political with the rise of Geert Wilders and his far-right party to environmental as the densely populated and low-lying nation grapples with climate change.

It is also a fascinating cultural, social, business, and technological story to cover, with a diplomatic power within the European Union that belies its size. Not to mention a busy sports schedule in the home of Max Verstappen and Total Football. Quirky Dutch stories always play well, as do eco stories about global giants like ASML and Philips.

The two international courts in the Hague have never been so relevant or so busy. The International Court of Justice is examining whether Israel is committing Genocide in Gaza, a case that will keep the bureau busy for years. Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court has an arrest warrant out for Vladimir Putin, soon to be joined in all likelihood, by Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leaders.

Added to this are European police office Europol and EU judicial body Eurojust, plus the OPCW chemical weapons watchdog, making for busy institutional coverage.

You will work under the authority of the Bureau Chief, who is responsible for editorial production across all media.

You should have a keen eye for the visual and multimedia aspect of coverage and work to coordinate with the photo, video and graphics departments. You will ensure that diversity in society is reflected in all our content.
