About this position

Solar energy is essential in the energy transition and will only become more important in the future. It is a high-growth market with many challenges for innovation, such as social acceptance, the use of scarce space, costs, and system integration with other renewable energy sources. As a Business Developer, you will contribute to developing innovation projects with public and private partners, through which new ideas and solutions will find their way to the market.

What will be your role?

Together with our partners (companies, government, and universities), you will develop projects and programmes in both a business-to-business context and public-private partnerships. The aim is to facilitate the energy transition and strengthen the position of Dutch industry. You will be working in a passionate and dedicated team of 6 people. You will also work closely with the researchers in Petten and Eindhoven to find out where advances and research can be applied. This is how we will solve the challenges in the energy transition together. You will also be engaged in expanding TNO's industry and partner network. Because of the frequent contact with existing and potential clients, you will travel all over the country.

What we expect from you

You are able to build and maintain a relevant network within the solar energy industry. You can turn the interests of current and potential clients into proposals. You are able to translate your vision on developments within the solar energy sector into the TNO solar energy strategy. You enjoy working in a multidisciplinary, international, and gender-balanced team. You have an open mind and are keen to learn from your colleagues and share knowledge within the team. You are able to think from the point of view of clients and jointly identify the potential of technology. You combine this with strong skills in negotiation, networking, and collaborative learning. You have critical thinking skills and the ability to learn new content-related knowledge and terminology quickly. You are used to working in a dynamic environment, which enables you to adapt rapidly to different situations. 

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

A Master's degree in physics, materials science, chemical engineering, or equivalent. A proven interest in and talent for business development. A knowledge of solar technology and/or systems. You have at least a B2-level command of Dutch and English.
