Tasks and responsibilities
Under the supervision of a lecturer or senior lecturer, you will participate in the teaching of workgroups in existing introductory modules in European Law, alongside team-teaching in more specialized courses. Important is flexibility in teaching a variety of topics related to European law and integration, a willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams of teachers and the ability to offer lectures and tutorials in the bachelor and minor programmes that aspire to a wide range of students. Your responsibilities will include:
teaching lectures, seminars and tutorials; supervising Bachelor’s theses; attending meetings and lectures, preparing for teaching, updating and translating course materials or assignments and selecting teaching methods, in consultation with colleagues and the senior lecturer; marking (final) assignments, theses and papers, providing input on tests and test questions and entering marks; coordinating practical matters around your own teaching working group (such as handling administrative matters and communicating with students); supervising theses and providing other individual supervision to students (mentoring, coaching and supervising internships).What do you have to offer?
You are active in the research field of European Law, and can communicate about this field accessibly and clearly. You show that you have a broad knowledge of EU Law and are also able to integrate other non-legal disciplinary perspectives into your teaching. You are enthusiastic about teaching, and you have a keen eye for the diverse backgrounds and specific needs of students. You like to work and teach in an international environment. You are familiar with the challenges posed by teaching in an and diverse classroom and are interested in further developing the skills that are needed to teach in such a stimulating environment. You are independent and able to cope with pressure, while you are at the same time collegial and are able to work together with others in team.Your experience and profile:
you have a LLM or PhD in Law, with a specialization in EU Law or a cognate field relevant to the position; you have attained the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If you have not attained the UTQ you are required to start with the UTQ track upon commencement of your employment contract and obtain the certificate within three years of employment; you are pedagogically/didactically competent (e.g. able to cater to an interdisciplinary classroom, to teach existing courses, to supervise students and to make an active contribution in meetings with fellow lecturers); You have excellent command of English. You have a good command of the Dutch language or are willing to learn Dutch. You are a team player and are willing to participate in activities of the capacity group European Studies.Preference will be given to candidates with previous teaching experience.
What can we offer you?
We offer temporary employment for a period of four years with a probationary period of two months. The employment contract is for 30.4 hours a week. The preferred starting date is 01 August .
Your salary, depending on relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract, ranges between € 3, to € 5, gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8,3% year-end allowance. Favourable tax agreements may apply to applicants moving from abroad. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
