The African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL) is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher for a 0,8-1,0 fte temporary position to strengthen the Centre’s research and teaching activities.
What you will do
You will strengthen and co-develop research lines in one of the following thematic fields:
Infrastructure development and resources (including energy and food) Health, technology and justice African security studies, conflict and conflict preventionYou will work on academic publications and individual or collaborative grant proposals for future funding. The position also includes teaching duties and educational programme support.

The ASCL offers a vibrant, interdisciplinary academic environment with colleagues having a background in a.o. anthropology, history, economics, demography, political science, language and literature studies, geography and business. The ASCL research and documentation represents a diversity of topics and geographical areas, and our education programmes include minors, (research) masters and post-graduate courses.

For this position, we specifically offer:
A temporary employment contract in the position of Postdoctoral Researcher (UFO Researcher 4). The employment will be for 12 months, with the prospect of extension for another 12 months in case of good performance. This term (24 months) might be further extended depending on funding. This contract falls under the Collective Labor Agreement of Dutch Universities; A salary of a minimum of € 3.226,- and a maximum of € 5.090,- gross per month (scale 10), based on a full-time appointment (38 hours per week). A holiday allowance (8%), an end-of-year bonus (8,3%), and an attractive pension scheme at ABP; Flexible working hours: as a standard, you are entitled to a minimum of 29 leave days on the basis of a full-time working week of 38 hours; you can also save for extra leave, for example by working 40 hours a week, and in this way accrue an extra 96 leave hours, or exchange 96 leave hours for a 36-hour week. Our individual choices model gives you some freedom to assemble your own set of terms and conditions. Where essential, hybrid working is possible within the Netherlands; A home-working allowance (day and internet allowance) and attention for good workplaces.
