We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with either Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or Applied Mathematics background to join a team of 15+ researchers (1+1 years contract); a team that is connected with the ELLIS Network of Excellence in AI; a team with consistent and strong presence in the top Machine Learning, as well as Computer Vision conferences and journals.

What are you going to do?

Deep Learning has revolutionized the field of AI with great impact on many application areas including Medical Imaging. In this position we will be studying Deep Learning specifically for Adaptive Radiotherapy. The position is embedded withing the POP-AART Lab (Partnership on Online and Personalized AI-enabled Adaptive Radiotherapy), a research collaboration between the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands Cancer Institute, and Elekta. You are expected to work on fundamental and practical aspects of computer vision and machine learning with a strong emphasis on medical data including CT and MRI imaging.

Tasks and responsibilities:

to show independence in achieving research goals and willingness to collaborate and to supervise PhD students working on deep learning, computer vision, and medical imaging; to help manage the lab, including helping with quarterly reports, discussing with Elekta, help preparing IP applications, organize meetings; share time between the Netherlands Cancer Institute and UvA. The primary location will be the Netherlands Cancer Institute; to present research results at international conferences, workshops, and journals; to become an active member of the research community and to collaborate with other researchers, both within and outside the Informatics Institute. to contribute to teaching activities, such as lectures, lab courses, or supervising bachelor and master students.

What do you have to offer?

PhD in either an AI-related field (Medical Imaging, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning); be able to invent and evaluate novel algorithm, and present these orally and in writing; committed researcher, demonstrated by publications in the top machine learning, computer vision, or other top scientific conferences and journals; are able to implement and evaluate machine learning algorithms in Python with deep learning toolkits (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Jax); are able to work with 3D embodied simulators (or willing to learn) are able to work well in teams and communicate fluently in written and spoken English.

Our offer

We offer a temporary employment contract for 38 hours per week for a period of 20 (12 + 8) months (with a probationary period of two months). The preferred starting date is to be discussed.

The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between € 3,226 to € 5,090 (scale 10). UvA additionally offers an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. The UFO profile Researcher 4 is applicable. The Collective Labour Agreement of Universities of the Netherlands is applicable.
