As a Product Development Scientist at Mars, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth, efficiency, and quality by leading and executing Global Food Technology programs. You will champion the development of new best practices in products, raw materials, and processes, ensuring that our offerings meet the highest standards of excellence.

This position is a contract role, running until December 31, 2025, with the potential for an extension based on performance and business needs.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Lead and execute new product renovation and value leadership projects.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and enhance value in the global product portfolio.
  • Develop viable product solutions that meet business targets, focusing on product performance, cost, and factory implementation.
  • Quantify and describe Key Quality Attributes (KQA’s) through iterative prototyping, sensory evaluation, and consumer research.
  • Create and maintain formulation guidelines, ingredient and product specifications, and manage the systems that control them.
  • Own and optimize product performance, recipe costs, and nutritional profiles.
  • Apply cutting-edge product development tools (e.g., Design of Experiments, Zero-based costing) and leverage the latest flavor and ingredient technologies.
  • Adapt product propositions to meet local market requirements where necessary.
  • Drive technical readiness for product development workstreams, ensuring all milestones are met.
  • Proactively manage Intellectual Property risks and opportunities in product development.
  • Provide high-quality, transparent communication on project progress to stakeholders.
  • Support broader business and team objectives, including the delivery of a 6% value leadership (VL) target.

What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Food Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the food industry.
  • Essential understanding of scientific principles related to food systems and ingredient/process interactions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication, relationship building, networking, and teamwork.
  • Strong project management skills.
