Background information:

The EUV Factory (EF) organization is responsible for the system build and install of EUV systems.

Within the EUV factory, the EF System Engineering department is the factory representative in the early design process of the new systems.

The EF system engineers have the task on one hand to understand the (high level) impact of the new systems on the factory and to minimize this impact, and on the other hand to secure factory requirements into the system design.

The goal is to ensure a smooth introduction of new systems, within the cycle time and cost targets.

Your assignment:


The ASML EUV Factory strives for efficient manufacturing processes, but new system designs often encounter issues once they reach the production environment which require upgrades.

This leads to delays (cycle time increase), rework, and disrupts the flow of production. Quantifying the risk and impact of upgrades during the development phase of new lithography systems is challenging. This information is crucial to prepare the factory resources and mitigate the impact of potential design flaws/upgrades.


This assignment aims to develop a data-driven approach to improve new system design success in manufacturing by predicting and catching design flaws during engineering reviews.

You will leverage your skills in data analysis and engineering principles to build upgrades prediction model and engineering review guidance for factory engineers.


This assignment has 4 different layers:

Data Collection and Integration:

  • Identify, access and integrate relevant data sources (e.g., design documents, manufacturing logs, upgrade requests)
  • Clean and preprocess the data for analysis

Root Cause Analysis:

  • Analyze the collected data to identify and categorize the root causes of design flaws encountered in past systems/platforms
  • Quantify the impact of these design flaws on the manufacturing process (e.g., cycle time increase, rework percentage)

Prediction Model Development:

  • Utilize data science techniques to develop a model that can predict the likelihood of design flaws (needed upgrades) on new system design based on historical upgrades data

Engineering Guidance:

  • Develop a set of guidelines for factory engineers to incorporate into the design and review process
  • These guidelines should leverage the findings from the data analysis and aim to prevent common design flaws encountered in past systems

Your profile:

To be the perfect match for this internship, you:

  • Are a bachelor/HBO student looking for a graduation project or a master student looking for an apprentice internship;
  • Have a study background in Engineering, with a specialization or an affinity with Data Science;
  • Have (project) experience with engineering root cause analysis and data modeling;
  • Have good interpersonal skills, are selfdriven and persistent.
The minimum duration of this internship is 5 months, for 3 days per week (minimum 1 day working on-site).

The start date is as of September 202- Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.
