Background information

As the ASML lithography systems get bigger, the (detrimental) impact of smaller particles on the system's performance increases. Protecting particles in the micro- and sub micrometer range from landing on critical surfaces has therefore become a key challenge in managing the lifecycle of ASML machines. Active and passive means of protection have been deployed, in particular, in manufacturing and service tools. These tools are developed by the Tooling Technology Departments in Development & Engineering (D&E) within ASML. Most protection tooling blocks particles in a "passive" manner, i.e., through a physical / mechanical barrier. Alternatively, protection tools can ensure active protection by introducing air flows, electrical fields, or other mechanisms that compensate / account for the particles underlying physical behavior. Because the number of contamination protection tools has risen sharply over the past few years particularly related to EUV systems, there is a need to study how the different tooling technical solutions (both active and passive) compare against each other and how they impact the specifications placed on the ASML Lithography systems on particles and defectivity.

Your Assignment

You will be working in among tooling engineers, with the main responsibilities include:

Develop testing setups, procedures, and methods to compare the performance of different protection tooling solutions in a statistically significant manner, using best-known methods within the company and considering different testing conditions / variables. Design and/or order dedicated hardware (custom or (partially) off-the-shelf), including, tooling based on the introduction of active particle flows. Execute the test plans and document the results. Evaluate the results and derive (design) guidelines for protection tooling, projecting the entire lifecycle of the study. This internship assignment could be combined with your graduation thesis/project or could also be an apprentice internship.

Your Profile

To be a perfect match for this internship you:

Are a bachelor or a master student in mechanical, aerospace engineering discipline. Have knowledge in CAD, preferably Siemens NX. Able to work in a team, structured minded, complimented with can-do attitude. Fluent in English both verbally and in written.

Other requirements you need to meet:

You are available for 4 - 5 days/ week, and for a minimum duration of 6 months, starting date in September 2024; You are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship; You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you 're currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, please include in your CV/motivation letter willingness to relocate.
