We are Tribology and Surface Science group within ASML Design & Engineering. We deliver tribology and surface science expertise to enable robust wafer clamping solutions and scanner roadmap. We continue building/securing tribology and surface science knowledge by linking various business partners, external knowledge centers and academic partners. 

Role and Responsibilities

In the position of Surface Science specialist, your mission consists of:

  • Active involvement in projects, identifying solutions to a variety of issues in the field of surface science and tribology
  • Supporting and expanding ASML's surface science/ tribology competences and early identification of future needs

Your main responsibilities can include:

  • Performing investigations for the project in the field of surface science and tribology (testing, calculations, data analysis)
  • Organizing and coordinating analysis work at suppliers and external labs
  • Support senior experts with hands on testing and analysis work
  • Creation and validation of new concepts to solve mechanical/ chemical aspects of contact problems
  • Advice design engineers on materials for current and future needs
  • Collaborate with universities/knowledge institutes and other high-tech companies

Education and experience:
  • Technical University/Master/PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Mechanical/Materials Engineering
  • Expertise in tribology and surface interactions (preferably 1-2 years of work experience)
  • Hands-on mentality (e.g. ready to work in the cleanroom)

Knowledge in the field of:

  • Surface properties & surface interactions
  • Coatings design/synthesis/characterization
  • Friction and wear phenomena
  • MATLAB knowledge is preferred
  • Precision-/nano engineering
  • Electrostatics

  • Proficient in the English language (both in speaking and writing)
