The Stage Position Measurement (SPM) department within the sector Development & Engineering (D&E) is responsible for interferometer and encoder based sub-nanometer position measurement systems for, a.o., wafer stages and reticle stages.
Because of the extreme measurement precision we strive for, there is a variety of physics aspects that become relevant to take into account. Therefore, we are looking for a physicist to address these phenomena in our development projects, and to build further on our competence. Within this role, you will have interaction with different projects from different business lines as you specific expertise is required throughout the department.
Roles and responsibilities
You will serve as the physics conscience of the department. In this role you will particularly have an eye for relevant technological and physics effects where other people may not think of. You will bring that in, and address the relevance. When appropriate you come with solution ideas, which you also evaluate on their effectiveness. Furthermore, you may work closely with the factory or with different suppliers to ensure the solutions are embodied well in their process.
As you have a unique role within our department, it is very important that you document all the knowledge you gained very well, and besides of that spread the awareness of relevant aspects in the department, e.g. by giving a talk regularly.
Main responsibilities:
Identify physics (and other aspects) that are of importance, and address those.
Evaluate the importance.
Find solutions, no matter if it is in the design or the production process or supplier selection, whatsoever.
Build you competence, and document this well.
Cooperate with other developers such that your findings are embedded well.
Work with suppliers to improve.
Education and experience
PhD in (applied) physics, preferably related to magnetism and/or material science.
A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Optical Fibers and fiber connectors
UHV and cleanliness
Semiconductor lasers
