Job Mission

ASML Research is looking for a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) expert to strengthen the Scanning Electron Microscopy Research group. The SEM group focusses on fundamental understanding and novel solutions to advance our electron beam tools used in the semiconductor industry.

Together with a multidisciplinary team you will aim to understand the different effects of electron imaging on customers’ applied use cases in order to optimize the electron optical design. This is done through modeling and your hypothesis are tested via experiments together with colleagues in San Jose, California.

Job Description

Your responsibilities and daily activities will be:

  • Multiphysics simulations of electron matter interaction
  • Work together with SEM specialists towards better understanding of SEM signal formation
  • Define experiments confirming your hypothesis and support testing on ASML e-beam systems
  • Translate use cases / device properties into SEM requirements
  • Generate new ideas and solutions for current and future electron beam products

Education

PhD in Physics with expertise in modeling.

Preferred experience

We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher with the following expertise:

  • Experience and affinity with performing and analyzing scientific simulations
  • Understanding of physical principles of materials and structures at the nanometer scale
  • Working experience in electron-matter interaction, condensed matter physics, electron beam is appreciated

Context of the position

The Research Scanning Electron Microscopy group is part of the Research department of ASML. Its task is to identify and fill in the technological gaps in the future roadmap of lithography and the lithography market. Our focus is on fundamental understanding and novel solution identification for our electron beam systems. We work in small teams and deliver proof of concept solutions that can be transferred to Development and Engineering. We intensively work together with external research institutes and universities.

A brief overview of the timeline of the recruitment process for this specific role:

  • week 48:  Screening of applications by the Hiring team. Shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews with the hiring manager.

  • week 49: First round of interviews( online or onsite). If positive feedback, candidates are invited for the final round.

  • week: 50-51: Final round of interviews( onsite)

  • after week 51: Offer initiation for the selected candidate
