AlpInvest has offices in New York, Amsterdam, London, and Hong Kong, with a team of more than 90 investment professionals and over 240 employees across the globe.
AlpInvest Co-Investments overview:
AlpInvest's Co-Investment team invests directly in companies, partnering with lead financial sponsors across the globe to provide equity financing in private equity transactions and leveraged buyouts. Investments are made globally across all industries, market segments and buyout categories by a team consisting of 33 dedicated investment professionals located in New York, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong.
The Co-Investment Program is designed to work alongside private equity GPs throughout the lifecycle of a deal. AlpInvest Partners engages early in the deal process and actively supports the lead financial sponsor underwriting a bid for a company in addition to acting as a supportive partner to help finance leveraged buyouts. The team has invested $17bn+ in over 400 transactions with 150+ private equity firms including Permira, Apollo, TA Associates, Advent, KKR, CVC Capital, TPG, Hellman & Friedman, Thoma Bravo, Inflexion, Apax, Silver Lake, and HG Capital.
Position Summary
Associates within the Co-Investment team are specialists with solid analytical backgrounds and are key members of the investment team working independently with senior investment professionals. A deal team typically includes a Managing Director, a Principal / Vice President, and an Associate. Key responsibilities include investment selection and due diligence (80%) and existing portfolio management work (20%). Associates are given the opportunity to apply critical thinking and judgement in the review of investment opportunities, while being expected to construct detailed financial models, broader industry analysis, and IC presentation materials.
Requirements
Education & Certificates
- University Bachelor's degree required with above average results and a strong analytical academic background
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a relevant field i.e., at an investment bank, private equity firm, management consulting, or similar setting, with exposure to a wide range of transactions, valuation work and due diligence assignments.
Competencies & Attributes
Successful candidates will be strong team players with the confidence to interact with all levels of the organization and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with specifically:
- Familiarity with leveraged buyouts and other private equity transactions
- Advanced financial modelling capability and ability to interpret financial metrics or complete financial analysis when analyzing investment opportunities
- Desire and ability to learn about new companies and industries, and ability to quickly get up to speed in understanding company financials and performance trends
- Experience with outside-in sector research and analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Collaborative team player working within an international environment
- Fluency in English and potentially another European language (although the role is based in Amsterdam, Dutch language skills are not required)
