**Job description**:
Today’s high-tech industry is facing increasing demands on the performance, robustness and safety of engineered systems that consist of many subsystems that are increasingly complex. In achieving performance requirements, the interaction of different physical domains becomes increasingly relevant to describe and predict dynamics of these systems, but also leads to a substantial increase of complexity. This position will develop modelling, control and optimization solutions that are able to cope with system complexity, through decentralized and distributed approaches, while guaranteeing reliable performance of the global system. This includes the development of learning methods for autonomous and adaptive controlled behavior.
**Control Systems group**
- Data-driven modelling in dynamic networks.
- Modelling and control of linear parameter varying systems.
- Spatial-temporal multi-physics systems and model reduction.
- Data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence.
- Constrained and interconnected systems.
- Model-based control and optimization.
- Control of cyber-physical systems.
Application domains range from multi-physics high-tech/mechatronic systems, automotive systems, energy and power converter systems to industrial process control systems. In each of these domains CS collaborates with leading companies contributing our fundamental knowledge to their innovation roadmaps.
The Control Systems group runs an Autonomous Motion laboratory where experimental research related to this position takes place.
**Job requirements**:
- Motivated researcher, with a PhD in the engineering domain (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or in applied physics) and with sufficient expertise in the systems and control research area, or any other relevant program from a leading university.
- Ability to conduct high quality academic research, reflected in demonstratable outputs.
- Ability to teach, demonstrated by experience or assistance in teaching. Informed vision on teaching and learning within your own discipline.
- Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
- Effective communication and leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring of students and staff, leading a project or chairing a group.
- Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English.
