We’re taking the magic of escape rooms to the streets and are looking someone to develop and run our new category of _City Quests_.

**Who are we?**:
Sherlocked is an award-winning **experience design studio** on a mission to re-enchant the world. We're an artistic bunch, with a knack for commercial products.

We’re looking for someone **driven**, **organised** and **enthusiastic** to develop and run this **new category** operationally, making sure everything runs smoothly and that the quality of our city games isn’t just stable, but ever improving. You’ll be responsible for the profitability of this business unit, supported by a strong team.

The launch of our city quests marks a big new chapter for Sherlocked, and we’re incredibly excited about its potential, both artistically, creatively and commercially.

**The Role**:
We’re looking for a _Captain_ of this product category; someone who enjoys both setting up and running this new branch of Sherlocked with us. The buck will stop with you, meaning that you’ll be responsible for the success of our City Quests.

We expect your main cares to become:

- Operational excellence
- Marketing & sales

For both, you’ll be managing multiple stakeholders. We can help provide the necessary support, as long as it fits the business model.

Experience in a leadership role is a bonus but not required, as we recognise and believe that enthusiasm, talent and attitude outweigh experience.

Fluency in **English** is required. Dutch is a nice-to-have.

**Why City Quests?**:
After 10 years of enchanting indoor spaces with our escape rooms, it’s time to make the ‘everyday outside world’ more magical. Because this everyday world is perceived as ‘less directable’ than spaces we control, the potential for surprise, delight and magic is all the more powerful.

Taking on this challenge also strongly aligns with our mission _to re-enchant the world_ and to bring people awe and empowerment through adventure and mystery.

Commercially, the advantages of outdoor quests are compelling as well:

- No need to rent expensive spaces
- If automated as envisioned, no human supervision required
- Potential for mainstream appeal. Escape rooms have a few _image problems_. City adventures may be able to leapfrog those and attract a wider audience.

Advantages 1 and 2 also compensate for a clear inherent downside of outdoor: seasonality. We expect City Quests to have a bi-seasonal cycle: between March and October the focus will be on operations and sales, and in the off-season it’s creation & production.

**The Market**:
Even though treasure hunts and similar outdoor adventures have existed for ages, this commercial version only came about recently. It was sparked by the popularity of escape rooms, but has the potential to surpass them in scale and general appeal. The market is still young and has tremendous room for growth.

We’re inspired by a few other companies, like our friends at Mystery City (whose games we currently actually offer on our site) and London’s Hidden City. Both companies offer what we generally call ‘city games’ or ‘quests’ and both have a completely different design approach. We too, have our own tastes and design philosophies, and we’re excited to bring our particular brand of mystery making into the world.

**Amsterdam**:
We’re looking for someone living in Amsterdam, or willing to move here. Amsterdam is only the starting point of our venture into city quests, and we aim to branch out internationally before the summer of 2025, but that first year in Amsterdam, we expect this role to be boots on the ground.

We have 3 city quests in different stages of development, two of which ready to launch this summer:

**International growth**:
Relative to our escape rooms, city quests require a shorter development cycle, which makes it ideal for scaling internationally. _Scaling,_ to us, doesn’t mean copying and pasting the same games. This may perhaps look like the commercially more logical step, but it’s not what our brand is about. Instead, we want to create a network of amazing and unique experiences worldwide. If the first phase of setting up city quests in Amsterdam goes well, you may just be the right person to drive this international expansion from 2025.
