The Adjacent Technology group is one of the technology pillars of Advanced Technologies, the global Research organization for Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific. This group is responsible for proof of principle and proof of concept of new technologies in, and around, electron microscopy (EM). Aligned with the business units and the development organization, the group invents, explores and develops new technologies for our EM customers that enable them to make our world cleaner, healthier and safer.
One of the challenges users of Electron Microscopes still faces today, is to observe, image and understand material processes as they occur in situ. These different dynamic phenomena can include phase transformations and mechanical responses for which RF cavity technology is developed together with the Eindhoven Technical University. With this technology multiple exciting developments have been initiated to allow our users to use our TEM platforms to understand these dynamic phenomena.
In the Operational TEM Technologies group in Eindhoven, we investigate and evaluate new technologies to understand and image these phenomena using innovative equipment. For the UltraFast TEM research line, we are looking for a scientist, specialized in RF cavity physics and other, complementary beam pulsing technologies. The scientist will work in a multidisciplinary team to carry out experimental studies, develop prototype systems for proof of principle or concept demonstration (PoP / PoC), take part of internal and external collaborations, generate knowledge and make inventions. Being a part of the Advanced Technologies group, the scientist is encouraged to contribute to the technology roadmap for technologies with a focus on electron-light interactions.
**Experience**:
- Experience with use of (pulsed) lasers, for example in Ultrafast science.
- Experience in Electron Microscopy, in particular Ultrafast EM, is a strong pre.
- Hands-on attitude.
- Experience, or affinity with instrumentation and/or method development.
- a driven team player that takes initiative
- able to translate scientific concepts to technology and vice versa
- a good communicator in English, both in speaking and writing
- able to implement and coordinate and prioritize research projects
