A compact Molecular Brain Tumor Detector that can identify brain tumors within seconds based on molecular profiles in electrosurgical smoke will be developed and validated in a collaboration between M4i and MUMC+ neurosurgery.

You are responsible for the collection, storage, handling and analysis of brain tumor and epilepsysurgery samples collected by neurosurgeons at MUMC. Also keeping track of relevant clinical information, as well as acquisition, data analysis and statistical interpretation of (imaging) mass spectrometry data with the newly developed Molecular Brain Tumor Detector under the guidance of an experienced postdoc is part of your PhD researchproject.

You will be part of a large and rapidly expanding team of imaging mass spectrometry researchers at the UM research group MSI in peri-operative diagnostics at M4I and expected to closely collaborate with oncological and epilepsy surgeons at MUMC. You will be supervised by a joint team of the Neurosurgery Department at MUMC and M4I at UM.

**Functie-eisen**
We are looking for a team player who is enthusiastic about neuro-related clinical problems and the search for translatable (bio-)technical solutions (bench-to-bedside / bedside-to-bench). You are not afraid of hands on research in the lab with high tech equipment. Besides you feel comfortable to be present during surgery in the operating room to collect patient-derived tissue samples. You have a master’s degree (or equivalent) in a scientific discipline closely related to (Bio-)medical sciences.
You should be currently living in, or willing to relocate to, the region around Maastricht (which is close to Belgium and Germany). Knowledge of the Dutch language is a plus but not a requirement. You must be fluent in both spoken and written English, at least at the level of B2 or C1 (skilled or advanced). You need to be able to prove excellent communication skills for academic publications and oral presentations and make optimal use of technical and clinical expertise of your colleagues.

- Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale P according to UFO profile PhD, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €2770,00 and €3539,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
- An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Upon a positive evaluation, an extension of 2 years will follow.

You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
