What you’ll do & Who you are

We're looking for a creative and leader to step into the role of Head of Data for Marktplaats. This critical position will help deliver high quality and cost-efficient data capabilities that users love to enable Product & Technology and business teams to use data effectively in their processes. You report to the CTO and will be part of the Product & Technology Leadership team and will lead and develop a team of diverse data professionals responsible for setting the strategy, developing and maintaining all data capabilities powering Marktplaats. This includes, advanced machine-learning solutions (recommendation engines, personalisation, image recognition), data warehouse and analytics tooling and automation. To understand our scale: our ML/AI products enhance over 25MiO search a day, and produce 10MiO recommendations. Across our platform we have over 150 data products fed by 100+ data pipelines, resulting in having just over 2 Petabytes of data stored.

As an important member of the Product and Technology leadership team you will combine technical expertise with promoting a data-driven culture and being a trusted advisor both within the organisation who gets excited by writing the next chapter for a beloved brand like Marktplaats.

What we are looking from you to be successful:
- Ability to coach others to become more data driven and increase their ability to work effectively with data and increase business value using data.- Work closely with Product and Technology leadership, business teams, and other cross-functional departments stakeholders to align data initiatives with broader business goals- Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced and constantly evolving industry. Customer-focused mindset to understand and meet user and business needs.- Demonstrate strong project management skills with a proactive approach to driving change management.- Lead, mentor and develop a team of up to 40 people implementing a performance and cooperative culture. Experience in managing distributed teams required

What should be part of your toolkit:- Extensive experience in Data Privacy and Data Security.- Extensive experience in Data Governance.- Solid experience in Analytics and ML/AI scopes.- Experience with strategy in data products and solutions, involving several teams, complex timelines, level of quality and cost.- Have deep technical insights, with ability to deep dive and excel at system design and architectural choices of complex distributed systems.- Experience in Software design patterns (microservices, messaging, distributed architectures) What Tools & Technologies you will be using:
We use a wide variety of tools and technologies in the data space. Prior experience is not required, but you should have experience with similar technologies:
- AWS ecosystem (redshift, S3, sagemaker)- Airflow- Kafka- Databricks- Tableau- Looker- Big Query- Google Analytics

What should you bring to the table?

Experience with classifieds, or similar multi-headed marketplaces. Understanding the dynamics around key pillars like consumer and professional trading, advertising and marketing is seen as critical to understand how to extract most value from our data.
