**The Tytgat Group**
Our group’s mission is to translate foundational research into clinical practice. With a focus on imaging, we assess the clinical efficacy of imaging techniques for staging and prognosis in newly diagnosed patients, as well as their prognostic significance during follow-up. We aim to leverage imaging findings to measure therapy response, detect resistance and progressive disease, clonal heterogeneity, and early recurrence.
The Tytgat Group is engaged in ongoing research projects involving liquid biopsies for Neuroblastoma, Rhabdomyosarcoma, and pediatric renal tumors, hosted at the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology—the Dutch national hospital dedicated to childhood cancer. The center’s goal is to cure all children with cancer while maximizing their quality of life. Scientific research and clinical care are seamlessly integrated, providing an excellent platform for translational research.
Our research utilizes cutting-edge single-cell technologies on pediatric patient samples, and we collaborate closely with other disease-oriented groups within the Princess Máxima Center, as well as international teams investigating liquid biopsies in pediatric solid tumors. Collaboration, curiosity, and a strong focus on clinical impact are at the core of our work.
**Research Project**
This position is part of a KIKA-funded, three-year project aimed at evaluating a new PET-CT tracer, 18F-MFBG, which has the potential to replace the traditional 123I-MIBG tracer. A pilot study has already demonstrated the feasibility of performing MFBG PET-CT scans on neuroblastoma patients. The next step is to prove the superiority of MFBG PET-CT compared to 123I-MIBG scanning.
**Skills/qualifications**
- Master’s degree in Medicine (MD PhD) or Medical Technology (PhD)
- Demonstrated interest in translational research
- Strong team player with a willingness to collaborate with both national and international scientists and clinicians
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Ambition to pursue a career in medicine
**Institute**
The Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology is a new research hospital concentrating healthcare, research and education with regard to cancer in children in a single location in Utrecht. The institute aims to provide the highest level of care for all children with cancer, with optimal quality of life. The center brings together the best possible care and scientific research, creating a unique interdisciplinary institute for pediatric oncology in Europe.
**We offer**
