Climate risk and vulnerability assessments play a crucial role in identifying climate hotspots and prioritizing investments where they are most needed. These assessments rely on robust information about historical and future climate conditions. However, local-scale data is not always readily available, leading us to heavily depend on satellite-based historical observations and regional climate models. As global datasets continue to expand and evolve, we are creating a comprehensive historic and future weather dataset with global coverage. This dataset directly informs our climate risk assessment initiatives and is being developed alongside ongoing projects.

As an intern, you’ll work closely with our climate risk assessment team. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

- Method Comparison: Dive into the complex world of historical and future climate data. You’ll explore different methods and (global) data sources, including CHIRPS, ERA5, GLDAS, NASA, and CORDEX. You will be evaluating their suitability for our purpose and identify the most effective approach.
- Develop a Data Platform: Ultimately the goal is to build a platform or several workflows that allows easy access to the preferred datasets that allows inclusion of the data in our climate hazard and risk modelling workflows.

**What you do as a graduate intern**:
The graduate intern will collaborate closely with the project leader to develop hazard models and maps. This initiative stems from an ongoing climate risk assessment focused on the African continent, providing a tangible use case that directly involves you in the team working on this assessment. Our overarching objective is to create a platform or methodology that can be universally applied, requiring scripting and automating of processes.

You will become part of the Advisory Group Resilience & Maritime the Netherlands. This team consists of around 180 colleagues and is based in the Netherlands across three offices (Rotterdam, Amersfoort and Nijmegen). As a team we excel in a wide variety of services and skills in the fields of Climate Resilience and Maritime developments.

We provide our clients, both private and (semi)governmental, with a range of services throughout the various phases of a project: from inception, through master planning, feasibility, design all the way to construction supervision. We have a strong foothold in The Netherlands but we operate worldwide.

**What you bring**:

- You are a MSc student Climate Studies / Earth Sciences / Environmental studies / Civil Engineering / or related field
- You feel at home in the world of GIS, Remote Sensing and Python
- You love to work with large spatial datasets and like to automate workflows
- You have affinity with climate change and want to dive into the strengths and weaknesses of different ways and methods to determine todays and the future climate
- You are fluent in English and preferably speak Dutch
- You work on the assignment preferably full time

**What we offer**:
During your internship at Royal HaskoningDHV you will learn what it is like to work in a consultancy firm and more specific the kind of projects implemented by the advisory group Resilience & Maritime. You will be fully part of the team and as such you are invited to participate in all team activities both project related and social activities.

You will also receive a monthly allowance of €550;
- per month (for a full time internship).
