**What you will be doing**
The Project

The Generations and Gender Programme is a cross-national research infrastructure for high-quality, open-access data about population and family dynamics. The main component is the Generation & Gender Survey (GGS) - a unique longitudinal data source on families and people’s life courses across different countries. Currently, new data is being collected in several European, Asian, and South-American countries.

The headquarter of the GGP is located at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) in the center of The Hague. It is responsible for the day-to-day management of the GGP, which includes implementing the governance of the GGP, providing support to national teams in collecting GGS data, and processing the collected data for release to the scientific community.

The position

This position of GGP junior researcher is an entry-level position for those starting their (academic) career journey. The main tasks will be to assist with the daily operations of the GGP headquarter and work with the newly collected GGS data. This will include:

- assisting with fieldwork preparations (e.g., coding and testing the survey questionnaire, helping monitor the fieldwork)
- processing the newly collected survey data in Stata and R, and further developing procedures for checking the data quality;
- developing products for facilitating and promoting the use of GGS data (e.g., creating user-friendly Stata syntax and variables);
- updating and managing the GGP bibliography;
- demonstrating the use and impact of the data to various stakeholders;
- support the work of the Central Hub as needed.

**What you will be bringing**
As our new team member in the GGP headquarter, you will bring a dynamic and adaptable mindset, ready to tackle changing priorities with ease. Your keen eye for detail and reliable organizational skills will ensure that tasks are managed efficiently and accurately.

Your recently completed Research Master’s in Sociology, Demography, or a relevant discipline will provide a strong academic foundation. You possess good knowledge of Stata or R and have experience working with large-scale longitudinal survey data, such as GGS or SHARE. Your strong technical affinity allows you to quickly learn and adapt to new software tools and technologies. Familiarity with GIT is a plus. Additionally, your strong communication skills in English, both written and oral, will ensure effective collaboration and documentation.

The appointment will be for a period of 12 months. Any extension will be contingent on performance, availability of funds, and the human resource needs of the infrastructure. Dutch law stipulates a maximum of 4 years in total for a temporary research-based contract. This may be followed by another contract for a maximum of up to a total of 4 years (including the initial contract). This will be dependent on funding and performance.

**About NIDI**
The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) is a leading European demographic research institute. NIDI is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and affiliated with the University of Groningen. It is located in the center of The Hague providing a unique and stimulating research environment in the broad field of population studies. Currently the staff of the institute consists of about 65 employees of different levels of seniority and organized in a rather horizontal structure within four thematic research groups. The working environment is highly international and NIDI provides ample opportunities for training and development.

**Terms of employment**
