Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to join our team as an Assistant Professor in the field of Modeling of Plasma Surface Interaction. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and driving their own independent research program, generating funding, and supervising/coaching students at the bachelor/master/PhD level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-quality academic research in the field of plasma surface interaction, with a focus on theoretical or numerical modeling.
  • Develop and teach courses in applied physics and science education, contributing to the development of the Applied Physics bachelor's and master's teaching programs.
  • Supervise and mentor students at the bachelor/master/PhD level, providing guidance and support in their research projects.
  • Collaborate with other researchers within the group and department, contributing to the success of the research group, department, and associated institutes.
  • Initiate new internal and external collaborations, and participate in proactive participation.
Requirements
  • PhD in (applied) physics, chemistry, chemical or electrical engineering, or another relevant field of science and preferably at least 2 years of experience as post-PhD researcher.
  • Ability to conduct high-quality academic research, reflected in demonstrable outputs.
  • Motivated to teach, contribute to teaching processes, and to develop excellent teaching skills.
  • Strong cooperation skills and ability to work and lead in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring of students and staff, leading a project or chairing a group.
  • Experience in acquiring external research funding from (inter)national funding bodies, or industry is an asset.
  • Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English.

  • Additionally, an annual holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary, plus a year-end allowance of 8.3% of the annual salary.
  • Partially paid parental leave and an allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
  • A Staff Immigration Team is available for international candidates, as is - depending on your personal situation - a tax compensation scheme (the 30% facility).
  • Possibility for part-time employment starting at 0.8 fte.
