5 dagen geleden

Groningen, Groningen, Nederland UMCG Voltijd

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG).

The aim of our project is to develop a diamond-based quantum sensing method to assess the health of bioreactor cultures. To achieve this goal, we bring together an interdisciplinary team of biologists, chemists, and physicists. Using new quantum sensing tools, we will perform nanoscale measurements on single cells and direct our sensing particles to specific locations within cells to measure local metabolic activity.

The successful candidate will have a background in biology and experience with microscopy, culturing of yeast, working with bioreactors, and assessing oxidative stress. They will also have an interest in working with an interdisciplinary team and be willing to learn new skills. The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy, and the vaccination will be provided if required for the position. A 'Certificate of Good Conduct' may be required for specific professions.

We offer a full-time research position for four years, with a full-time contract for one year, extendable for three years based on sufficient progress and the expectation of a successful completion of the Ph.D. project. The salary will be € 2,901 gross per month in the first year, up to a maximum of € 3,677 gross per month in the 4th year, based on a full-time appointment. In addition, the UMCG will offer 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centers (CAO-UMC).

The site of your research will be the Department of Biomedical Engineering with excellent guidance and facilities for scientific staff.
